Ingredient FAQ
What makes Pure Anada products “natural”?
“Natural” is the latest buzz-word in the cosmetic industry. Many brands have done a fantastic job of “green-washing” consumers into believing that their products are natural, when in fact they may only contain a few natural ingredients. We do not want our products to merely “contain” natural ingredients. We want Pure Anada products to be entirely natural. To us that means selecting ingredients that are simple, recognizable and sourced from the earth itself. Our range of ingredients include minerals (many of them food grade), plant oils, waxes and butters. We won’t even consider using synthetic chemicals in our products. It goes against our values and philosophy to offer a truly natural line of makeup and skincare.
Are your products Organic?
First of all, minerals cannot be classified as “organic” since they are dead or “inorganic”.
Our other products, such as lipstick, lip-gloss, skincare, body-care, etc, are made from many certified organic ingredients. Whenever we are presented with the opportunity to choose an ingredient that is available as a certified organic…we do.
The process of certifiying our products is expensive. Since we are a small firm, we have not invested in certification at this time.
In conclusion, Pure Anada products contain a high percentage of certified organic ingredients.
Are your ingredients Fairly Traded?
Some of our ingredients are purchased from developing countries. Fair Trade ensures that fair wages are paid to producers in developing countries. We are concerned about making globally responsible choices. Our organic, unrefined cocoa butter and shea butter is purchased from fair trade organizations in Africa.
Are your ingredients/products tested on animals?
We do not test our products on animals, nor do we purchase ingredients from suppliers that do animal testing. Pure Anada has been certified as a cruelty-free manufacturer by the Leaping Bunny program.
Our bamboo brushes are made of synthetic micro-fiber and therefore are also cruelty free.
Are Pure Anada products gluten free?
All of our products do not contain gluten. The only ingredient we use that could possibly contain gluten is Vitamin E. However, our vitamin E in our lip products is derived from rice bran, and the vitamin E in our eye and lip liners is derived from soy.
Are loose mineral cosmetics safe? Is there a concern with inhaling loose mineral particles?
There are concerns regarding the inhalation of ANY fine particles. The MSDS (material safety data sheets) for all of the minerals in our formulations warn against inhalation and recommend wearing a mask during production.
We do not believe there is a concern with the everyday application of product. There shouldn’t be a cloud of dust when applying minerals if you are doing it properly.
The concern and warnings should be for personnel in the manufacturing process. That is where they air gets filled with tiny particles for several hours a day. At Pure Anada we always wear filter masks when blending our products.
If you use quality ingredients, why are your products so affordable?
It has always been a goal for us to offer a quality, natural product at an affordable price. Fortunately, we are located in an area of Canada where the cost of living is fairly economical. Our overhead is much lower than if we were situated in a larger, urban center. We are happy to pass these savings along to you!
As a Canadian consumer, the benefits of purchasing a Canadian-made product include avoiding all the costs associated with an imported product.
